#cocreateBEATS is a unique collaboration between #cocreateSANL, an initiative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Cape Audio College. The purpose of the collaboration is to provide twenty scholarships to the Cape Audio College DJ course for underprivileged young people. By granting these course fees, aspiring DJs will have the opportunity to pursue the career of their dreams and empower them with skills that generate income. The relevance of the project lies in the fact that a large percentage of youth is unemployed in South Africa. #cocreateBEATS is one of #cocreateSA's initiatives aimed at creating sustainable solutions for local challenges. Music is the voice of the youth and this programme gives them the opportunity to allow their voices to be heard and their stories to be told. This way we can create new mutual understandings.
It also allows us to promote the music industry in South Africa: by empowering the students we aim to empower the music industry at the same time and will bring the sector in South Africa to a higher level. The Netherlands has a clear impact on the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) industry. The Dutch are a global market leader in the dance industry. Some of the Netherlands most well known DJ's and annual DJ Mag top 100 include: Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Fedde Le Grand, Martin Garrix and Hardwell have shot to number one on the annual . With this programme we can exchange talent and expertise and enhance the international profile of both the countries. This will eventually result in cross-fertilization between the Netherlands and South Africa because South African students will now be prepped for a career which they can compete with others from the industry worldwide.
