Play to Learn Playing for a better future
Event Details
Join us for a presentation by Karin Benjamin and Luuk Kemperman of Play to Learn. Play to Learn is a project initiated by Industrial Design Engineering students from the HAN University in The Netherlands, emphasising user-centred innovative design in the Theewaterskloof municipality.
The educational toys of Play to Learn are designed based on the needs of the children in Theewaterskloof school. Interdisciplinary research showed that toys could help to improve the fine motor skills of children. The aesthetic toys that were designed and made improve the fine motor skills as well as the hand-eye coordination and concentration activities of the 5- and 6-year-olds.
By improving the fine motor skills and social competences the children’s learning abilities, future job opportunities and quality of life will increase. Additionally, Play to Learn seeks to stimulate transfer of skills both in designing and producing as well as in business skills by collaborating with local craftsmen.
