Student City: A design-led planning seminar

Event Details

Cape Town’s Student heartland creates a powerful geometry of opportunity around Cape Town’s planned Second Metropolitan Node at Tygerberg. With more than 100000 students, five higher learning institutions of national significance and excellent logistics and infrastructural linkages, the Student City opportunity will be a major driver of urban regeneration.

The seminar explores the meaning and implications of design-driven planning, the experience thus far on the Voortrekker Road Corridor and the potentials and possibilities for weaving together an integrated matrix of learning, living, working and cultural opportunities. Place making is seen as a central discipline in the process of developing Student City.

Questions will be explored as to the nature, location and conceptual drivers of the Student City to guide on-going work by the Greater Tygerberg Partnership, the City of Cape Town and universities and colleges.
