DOD Workshop: Food Security

Event Details

What if farmers as innovative food producers could sustainably feed the growing population of our cities?

To feed its growing urban population, South Africa needs efficient farms close to its cities, which minimise the impact on the natural environment while increasing their yield and providing secure employment for farmers and farm workers. The sustainable production of nutritious and affordable foods, both for home use and for international export, calls for new farming models, involving innovative technologies and new forms of collaboration within the sector.

The workshop includes a keynote by Mzokhona Mvemve (East London Industrial Development Zone) and will bring together the foremost Dutch and South African experts on food security, encouraging collaboration between the two countries in this sector. Local farmers will also be in attendance to add to the depth of this exploration for a sustainable and viable solution to our food security challenges.
