WHAT IS THE MOBILITY INDABA?

The Mobility Indaba is an open, co-created forum, consisting of experiential activations, workshops, and discussions focusing on various alternative and non-motorized forms of transport.

WHAT IS THE COST TO ATTEND THE MOBILITY INDABA?

There is no cost to attend the Mobility Indaba.

WHO IS ORGANISING THE MOBILITY INDABA?

The Mobility Indaba is initiated by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cape Town in collaboration with the City of Cape Town, Transport for Cape Town, WESGRO and Accelerate Cape Town.

WHY HAVE A MOBILITY INDABA?

According to the 2016 TomTom Traffic Index Report, Cape Town is rated as the most congested city in South Africa. Growing traffic congestion not only adversely affects the economic growth of Cape Town; it also touches the daily lives of the people of this city. But mobility is more than only economic growth figures. Access to transport gives us access to our jobs, our friends and families, as well as connecting us with places and new experiences.

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE MOBILITY INDABA?

This year Cape Town’s Transport Month will kick off with the Mobility Indaba #cocreate2MOVE. Through the activations and conversations the MOBILITY INDABA aims to encourage people to rethink how they connect and move around their neighbourhoods, and to co-create a way forward that focuses on mobility as a key driver of inclusive economic growth, sustainable development and societal transformation.

WHERE WILL THE MOBILITY INDABA TAKE PLACE?

The MOBILITY INDABA will take place at the Kenilworth Racecourse in Kenilworth, Cape Town.

WHAT ACTIVITIES WILL THERE BE AT THE MOBILITY INDABA?

The MOBILITY INDABA will focus in three distinct components that will run simultaneously through the event. These are:

  • 2INSPIRE
  • 2MAKE
  • 2SHOW&GO

2INSPIRE

An outcomes driven ‘Unconference’ designed to ‘know-it, own-it, work it’. On day one, government officials, business people and users will learn to and listen from each other, with users’ experiences, ideas and solutions taking centre stage. On the second day we will process the learnings of day 1 and consolidate it into a charter and action plan that will guide sustainable mobility for Cape Town in the next two years. 2MAKE

A platform where creatives, entrepreneurs and those with a knack for tech, can showcase their innovations and interact directly with the public and each other. Workshops and practical demonstrations will allow visitors to have fun, learn and be empowered.

2SHOW&GO

BMX-riders, skateboarders and rollerbladers demonstrating their skills, showing that alternative transport can be cool and sexy. Musicians and artists will keep the audience entertained, while visitors get a chance to learn new skills and participate in activities.

WHEN WILL THE MOBILITY INDABA TAKE PLACE?

The MOBILITY INDABA will take place from the 6th to the 10th October 2016. The Unconference happens on Thursday 6, Friday 7 and Monday 10 October. The Saturday and Sunday will be filled with mobility related activities, such as the Cycle Hack, Innovation Station and BMX-shows.

WHO IS INVITED TO ATTEND THE MOBILITY INDABA?

The general public is invited to attend the weekend activities. The Unconference is aimed at anyone who wants to share their experiences, ideas and solutions around transport and mobility with decision makers from the public and private sector.

WHAT SORT OF IMPACT WOULD THE MOBILITY INDABA HOPE TO MAKE?

Mobility is a key factor in economic growth .We see Cape Town as a future leader in mobility on the African continent. Through the MOBILITY INDABA we hope to share knowledge and accumulated expertise helping to put Cape Town in a position to grow its traditional and alternative economies. Furthermore we hope to foster mutually beneficial partnerships between Dutch and South African business and social entities.

WILL THERE BE AN EXPO TO TAKE PART IN?

The MOBILITY INDABA is not an expo but an exhibition of inspiring stories around mobility.
