#cocreateSANL and Cape Audio College contributes to the next generation of music industry specialists

#cocreateSANL and the Cape Audio College proudly presents #cocreateBEATS. This partnership with Cape Audio College focuses on building the next generation of DJs and music industry specialists for the ever expanding music industry in Cape Town and South Africa (SA).

#cocreateBEATS  gave three up-and-coming DJ students from the Pioneer DJ Academy the opportunity to showcase their talent at the annual Ultra SA Braai Reception where Dutch Consul General Bonnie Horbach invites South African and Dutch DJs to socialize and network before they perform at the Ultra SA Music Festival. This year we will be joined by Dutch DJ and music producer Headhunterz and some of SA's prominent DJs including: DJ Fresh, Euphonik, DJ Ready D and Ph Madubela.

Congratulations to our three winners Lebohang Maphutsi, Callan Maart and Jared Johnson!

"By partnering with most established audio training institute in SA, we aim to provide opportunities for SA’s youth to be able to pursue their dreams in the music industry. Going forward we will provide scholarships to students in order to contribute to the growth of talent in Cape Town and the vibrant music industry of the Western Cape," says Dutch Consul General Bonnie Horbach.

In order to enter the #cocreateBEATS competition, DJ students were tasked with creating and submitting their own mix of 30 minutes. The submissions incorporated different genres ranging from deep dubstep to afro-house.

Music and more specifically, Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is a popular and well-respected industry in the Netherlands. The music industry in the Netherlands generates a net income of over a quarter of a billion Euros. It has also had an increase in turnover by 20% in the past decade and represents one out of fourteen jobs in the creative industry.

It is an exciting time for the music industry in South Africa and Cape Town has the potential to be positioned as the Music Hub of the African continent.
