Digital Twins

During this masterclass experts from the Netherlands and South Africa will highlight the concept of Digital Twin through a number of examples focusing on the benefits of Digital Twinning for smart cities. Participants will be briefed on showcases around Digital Twinning for flood management, asset management and smart industry. The session will be concluded by a panel discussion with high level executives from the city of Joburg as well as experts from the Netherlands who will explore how Digital Twinning can support policy development and implementation in cities. 

This workshop is part of a larger bi-annual event called #cocreateMYCITY, which aims to bring the sharpest minds from South Africa and the Netherlands together to develop Smart Solutions for Resilient Cities. Together we can create urban environments that are environmentally sustainable and economically competitive with a high quality of life.

This exciting multi stakeholderpartnership includes the City of Johannesburg, the Jo’burg Inner City Partnership,artist Ras Motse, The Next Movement, the Cartoon Movement, and internationallyacclaimed cartoonist Zapiro.

Smarter Logistics for the Liveable City

Prof Hans Quak - Professor of Smart Logistics, Breda University of Applied Sciences

Cities are made for people! The ‘Liveable City’ concept explores how to integrate logistics innovations into daily life by using data for better planning, decreasing commercial traffic and reducing harmful emissions to create healthier, more liveable cities. In this lecture we will look at examples from the Netherlands and cover topics such as Logistics bundling; City Hubs; Home Deliveries and Spatial Development and their applications in the context of modern-day Johannesburg.

Building Smart Cities through AI, blockchain and big data analytics 

During this workshop we will be exploring possible collaboration between South African and Dutch businesses and organizations for building smart and resilient cities through the application of artificial intelligence, blockchain and big data analytics. The session will commence with an overview of urban developments and opportunities in South African that will be presented by the City of Johannesburg, followed by highlights on compelling and smart digital solutions from the Netherlands. A first mapping of needs with concrete solutions will be done during this session. Guidance and practical tips will also be provided to enable international collaboration between Dutch and South African organizations.
